Indigo Bunting Singing

5:30 this morning while Ingrid was training for an upcoming road race at nearby Singing Meadow, I spent some time trying to photograph the Indigo Bunting that has been eluding us recently. He is loud, but shy and stays high in the tree tops, appearing momentarily as he moves to a new location.

After about a half hour of squishing through the meadow, being eaten by mosquitos and catching only frustrating glimpses, Max (yes I named him Max), briefly came down to a nearby birch tree. I finally got a good photo. A few minutes later he perched about 50 yards away and sang for about 5 minutes, allowing me to get several telephoto shots through the fog.
