Birding the Lower Rio Grande Valley (The Inn at Chachalaca Bend)

Great Kiskadee

Christmas presents were opened . . . breakfast was eaten . . . where upon Ingrid and I waved good bye to our grown children, packed and headed to Boston for an early morning flight to the southern tip of Texas.

The Lower Rio Grande Valley is filled with wintering species and year round species that can only be found here and in Mexico.

We are staying at The Inn at Chachalaca Bend,  B&B that caters to birders.

Unfortunately we arrived to 40 mph winds and a government shutdown that has the local National Wildlife Refuges closed.

We did get three lifers and three more first of year birds.

Plenty to do here without the NWRs . . . tomorrow we make lemonaide out of lemons.
