Marsh Wren

This morning I was looking for migrating warbler at a local hots spot (Butler head) when I started hearing a weird gurgling sound from the nearby marsh.  It was a happy sound coming from a handful of location across the quarter mile expanse of reeds.

As listened I began to suspect a Wren and putting one and two together . . . Marsh Wren . . . but a very different sound than I had heard from them earlier in the summer.

Suddenly one flew up out of the reeds and landed 25 feet from me . . . posing and singing . . . a rare treat for this very shy bird.
