Thanksgiving in Texas

Ingrid and I spent Thanksgiving in Jourdanton, Texas with our son Bradley and his wife Tanner.  In January, they bought a beautiful home outside of San Antonio and this was our first opportunity to truly visit and learn the area (we had briefly stopped by in February when we were looking for Whooping Cranes).

While our trip was primarily a family visit . . . Ingrid and I had to do a little birding . . . and incredibly got a life bird while sitting in the “kid’s” back yard, when a half dozen Bronzed Cowbirds came to their bird feeder.

Other visitors to the backyard feeder . . .

Golden-fronted Woodpecker
Couch’s Kingbird
Loggerhead Shrike
Inca Doves
and a couple Green Jays

On Saturday, before flying home, Ingrid and I gave the Kids a break from entertaining and did some real birding in San Antonio.  There we were introduced to Texas clay . . . the stickiest . . . slipperiest substance ever invented.

We also saw some Cave Swallows . . . another lifer!!!
